「 A quote from this series 」
"Ever since you came, it seems like he started longing to become a hero again."
「 The Review 」SynopsisTwo police officers with completely different methods in solving a crime, found themselves working in the same police department.
StoryImagine James Bond joining the cast of the film Police Academy (yes, I'm exaggerating a bit here), and they all worked together to do some investigation. That's a great combination of action, mystery, comedy, and drama, right?
Basically, that's what you're gonna get while binge-watching this 11-episode anime. And I said binge-watch 'cause it's the perfect way to fully enjoy this series (finish it in just one or two days!).
The main arc in this show will give you a rollercoaster ride, which will start at episode five. There will be numerous discoveries, heart-pumping scenes, and so on. And, just like what I experienced, you might be in total shock when the culprit was finally revealed.
Characters
We have two main characters here. First was Haru Katou, a police who want to do justice in a decent way as possible. And secondly, Daisuke Kanbe... you can simply think of him as an Asian Batman.
When I watched the first two episodes, I was slightly turned off by Daisuke's character, but by the time I decided to review the whole series, I just get to accept his role.
There's a bigger picture to delve into rather than focusing on his edgy personality, which I later found to be necessary, as his actual role was to be the complete opposite of Haru. And... his being filthy rich was also needed for modern crime investigations.
By the third episode, the two have started to sync with each other. Then came episode four where we got to see them bond on another level (no, not BL).
And when the main story has begun in episode five, you'll just realize that their clashing personas were beneficial for their own growth and well-being.
As for the supporting cast... Watch out for Suzue Kanbe -- she's somewhat like a female 'Robin' to Daisuke.
Writing / Storyboarding
The first episode was a great intro for our two main characters. While the fourth one, a light comedy, was a good break from three consecutive crime-related episodes. And for the finale... I love an unpredictable outcome, and this anime gave me that.
So, huge props to Taku Kishimoto, he's also responsible for the remake of Fruits Basket and the popular sports anime Haikyuu!!.
What I noticed as well from the writing was, there's no stale scene. They will inject comedy if needed, to add some entertainment.
Artwork / AnimationThe high-end, modern technologies were the focus of the artist/s responsible for the mechanical designs here. Those gadgets took the police crime drama genre to another level.
For the most gorgeous shot, I chose this one:
Episode 10 has cool fight choreography and visual effects. I mean this smoke looked so real:
Music / SoundThe music at the end of episode 8 was hauntingly good, its title was 'Already dead.' For the sound effects, episode 10 had the best mix of everything you can expect in an action sequence.
And the ending theme song "Welcome My Friend" by OKAMOTO'S has amazing production and for me, a mood changer. Listening to it will definitely lift your energy.
