Synopsis
The trio gives everything they can to submit a short film to the Student Council for review.
Story
In this episode, they have shown what it's like for animators when they have an urgent project to be done.
A good example of what they tackled were those professionals working on anime episodes being released every week. Imagine the nonstop work they had to go through just to keep up with the deadline... It's really a stressful job.
There were also animation tricks: how background can be reused, how to achieve different shots from one drawing, and also the zoom and pan camera effect. Lastly, the difference between digital and hand-drawn art.
Characters
Asakusa wanted a story, Mizusaki preferred hand-drawn and detailed animation, while Kanamori's goal was to present a product they can sell to the committee even if the quality was reduced.
Amongst the three, Tsubame has a bit of selfish personality. Drawn by her passion, she neglected Sayaka's proposal to go digital. Although, when she saw how Kanamori did everything she can, to the point where she even had to ask the Anime Club to lend their help, yet was denied, she finally compromised with her by saying she'll just do the parts she wanted to focus on. (And that's how teammates should work together!)
And let's not forget Midori, props to her for showing that she's a real leader by helping Kanamori when she's being cornered by the members of the student council. A teary Asakusa didn't mince her words and made everyone silent with some real talk.
Writing / Storyboarding
While Kanamori was doing her best to counter all the negative stuff being thrown at them, Asakusa just had enough of it and lost her cool. And what came after were amazing dialogues one after the other:
"
Blast it, all you've done is run your mouths about a buncha hokum, ya nimrods!"
"
We took our lumps to get this anime made, ya ignoramuses!"
"
The proof's in the pudding! Don't run yer mouth until you've tasted it! Got it?!"
That's some introvert out of her shell for you...
Artwork / Animation
Tons of frames were used for this episode, aside from the imaginary world of our main character, there's the jaw-dropping short film in the evaluation scene, added with surreal reaction from the audience.
Music / Sound
New music was introduced on these scenes: the ethnic-sounding instrumental when Sayaka was in her room, when they were working on their film, Midori woke up under a desk, the BGM for their presentation, and when their project has finished playing.
Plus, the sound effects for the film, especially the firing of the bombs... which were all accurately synched.
