SynopsisBam, a boy who lived alone in the dark has had a life-changing experience after meeting Rachel. However, the girl he looked up to has decided to go to the so-called Tower of God to grant her desire.
Bam, feeling not wanting to be all by himself again, then tried to enter the tower uninvited.
Story
Basically, this anime can be considered as one of those with battle royale theme. At its core, it's about players who were fueled by their passion to achieve whatever they wanted. Whether it's power, vengeance, fame, you name it.
So if you're into that kind of anime, then don't miss this, BUT -- be ready to be somehow disappointed on some factors, mainly animation and writing.
Characters
One good thing about this show was its character development. They were able to show backstories, not only of the main cast but also of the side characters, enough for us to know their reason why they entered the tower.
Amongst the players, it was Rak who I found the most amusing, and surprisingly, a good teammate.
For the strongest -- Yuri, I so did not expect her monstrous ability.
On the other hand, Yu Han Sung, was someone who I'm very intrigued to know more about.
And here's the thing, just get ready for what's about to be revealed as you get to know certain characters. Like seriously, as someone who didn't read the manhwa, I was shocked by the true intentions of some of the participants.
Writing / Storyboarding
I'll get straight to the point on this one...
The scenes lacked the right amount of intensity they should have given to their audience. An example was from episode 8 when Khun was dragged to fall from a high place:
Watching that scene just didn't feel terrifying at all.
Some scenes were also written poorly...
In episode 9, Rachel was badly injured, yet they still have time to tell somebody's history. Shouldn't they be saving her as quickly as possible? A knife just went through her for goodness sake!
And for an ending, the finale was dissatisfying. The unknown man shown at the end, whose purpose was probably a tease for the next season, didn't give me any chills.
Bottom line: Whoever was responsible for the storyboards must be replaced.
Artwork / AnimationAnimation can be off-putting at first, but that shouldn't be your main concern (it's definitely the writing!).
Character designs were not as interesting as they could have been. If it will be compared to the designs of other anime like Hunter X Hunter, it will only look average.
Music / SoundBoth the opening and ending songs were sung by Stray Kids, with "SLUMP" being the better track of the two.
In terms of music, all I can say was -- it's one of the factors that didn't let me down. And one gorgeous background you will hear most of the time was the track Irregular God. The first time I heard of it, it immediately reminded me of the acclaimed song from Ghost in the Shell -- Reincarnation.
