Synopsis
A patrolling golem found a little girl in broken chains and handcuffs, lost in the middle of the woods. Both now have to start on a journey to find a race that has its population extremely decreased.
Story
In the beginning, everything looks fine, until came the scene where the waiter at the restaurant started summarizing the war that broke out between humans and theirs. What I didn't understand was how unaffected Somali was after hearing everything. I mean, I know Golem probably told her about it, that's why she needs to be disguised. But still, how can she totally enjoy her food while hearing about humans being treated as pets, or being eaten? At least show some sympathy.
For the last scene in the city, Somali should really be thankful that Golem truly lacks emotions, or else he could have scolded her. Seriously, if you think about it, she's literally surrounded by creatures who at any moment would devour her if they found out she's a human (
she better stay put with her guardian).
Characters
First, we have 'Golem,' so far he has no specific name other than that. He's a forest guardian who patrols the surroundings and protects any living form of life -- except if they were being consumed for survival, 'cause he has no authority when it comes to the food chain. In a way, he's similar to one of those National Geographic camera crew who can't do anything when they're filming a scene between prey and its predator. (
Sad, but that's how life is.) Speaking of food, he only needs oxygen, sunlight, and water to live. Personality-wise, he lacks emotions, so he's similar to an AI assistant when he speaks.
Second, there's our main character Somali, I mistook her for a boy throughout the whole episode. I've only found she was a girl after doing some research. Her personality can be characterized as an extrovert -- too much energy, and likes to go around anywhere she wants to.
Writing / Storyboarding
The script for the two characters was totally balanced in this episode. We get to fully know how opposite the two were. The older one was composed, whilst the youngster was too excited/distracted.
Artwork / Animation
I love the color combinations, there's plenty of different shades, but nothing too loud for the eyes. For the animation, there's nothing spectacular, not that I expected anything.
Music / Sound
The opening song performed by
Naotarou Moriyama was an orchestral track, while the ending song was a ballad with good piano and string parts, by
Inori Minase. For the BGM, the best I can think of was the one after they have left the inn.
